All in a nights work

20090427_3just over a week ago a Dial a Cab driver was told she can’t wait outside Nobu in Berkeley Street w1, so she tells her controller what was said and then asks for drivers to start ranking outside and they did they came in their masses till  the club shut their doors, the same went on at Abacus and smiths  in the city.

Above Cabs ranking outside Nobu in Berkeley Street, the rank ended in Berkeley Square.

We also ranked at Lots of  other clubs in the city and west end.

I  joined in and managed to get a few good jobs, which other wise would have gone to the minicabs. It felt good that we were united in reclaiming  what was rightfully ours in the first place. We have let the minicabs walk in and take our work for far to long, if the police won’t do anything in stopping them from touting our work, then we should just rank up and take it.

Below Smiths bar in the city, at one point the rank reached Farringdon Street.

.

Monday the 27th police start to move cabs on at Nobu, while the minicabs are left behind to tout our work, where is the justice in that.

When I went round to Zuma restaurant in Knightbridge there were half a dozen cabs already waiting to pick up, it took me around 15 minutes before I and two other cabs got a job,It was moving quite well but before we could move of one of the minicab drivers parked his car in the middle of the road waiting for his punter to come out,in the meantime blocking us in.

Only now do we realize all the work we were missing, while driving around aimlessly. I think now is a good a time as any to ask for more ranks out side clubs and restaurants.

Well done the controllers and drivers at Dial a Cab that took part, don’t give up. keep it up and pass the word

Be lucky Steve.

Good writing and lets see more drivers other than DaC ranking up at these places, I have the last week ranked at least 2 of these places every night, last night was a bit slow at Nobu bit we need to stick with it.
I can see more problems at OXO tower, the drivers have been taking pictures of all taxi drivers and word has it a driver got assualted on Saturday night.
Be careful and lets stick together

    Thanks for your comment Mike.

I think your probably right about there being more problems.
If the police get involved and move us on,which I some how doubt because we’re not blocking the public highway,

maybe we should point out the fact that the minicabs are touting illegally and shouldn’t they move them on as well.

  3. Steve, your right its fantastic that we have finaly woken up and started to take back our work.
Unfortunately I have been off for the past week with flu. but should be back on the front line friday.

I am not on the radio these days and would like to see more non radio drivers joining in.
We have to spread the word by mouth, blog, text and even e-mail. Once others know what is happening they will come and join us.

Be carefull if you are filming or taking pictures as thay are using camcorders to catch us driving whilst filming.

I have been a cab driver for about 24 years and it seems to be getting harder every year, i remember being told that by other cabbie’s when i was on my knowledge bike funny how things come around again. I have a very good friend who is also a cabbie that says “what goes around comes around” lol.
As for the night work and mini cabs nicking our work, it’s been happening for years, only we seem to be getting our act together now. With the dodgy doorman as well as there mates with the mini cab or i should say cars it will be hard to stop.
We don’t have ranks as most of these clubs and i feel that the PCO are only a visit away (you know what i mean) they will say we are touting if we are not on a rank so be carefull out there guys.
